Two people arrested over police chase through Epping

A Melton man and woman accused of stealing a car and leading the air wing and the dog squad on a lengthy police chase through Melbourne’s north have been arrested overnight.

Two people accused of stealing a car and ramming a police vehicle during a chase through Epping last night have been arrested.

The dog squad and air wing helped track the allegedly stolen Holden Colorado ute during the chase, which lasted more than half an hour.

Police deployed stop sticks but the driver reportedly continued on a rim before allegedly pulling into a service station on High St about 11.20pm.

The female passenger ran from the vehicle and allegedly attempted to carjack a nearby driver before she was arrested by police.

The male driver allegedly reversed into a police car before two other cop cars moved in to prevent him fleeing.

He was pepper sprayed and arrested.

Three police cars were damaged in the incident, and one officer suffered a minor injury during the arrest.

A 32-year-old Melton man has been charged with dangerous driving while pursued by police, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, aggravated reckless exposure of emergency worker to risk by driving, theft of motor vehicle, theft, dangerous driving, speeding and driving while disqualified.

He has been remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.

A 24-year-old Melton woman has been charged with attempted carjacking, theft of a motor vehicle, theft and possess prohibited weapon.

She has been bailed to appear at Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on January 15, 2021.
