The past five years have been anything but easy for Epping’s Lisa Fraser.

She’s experienced the tragic deaths of both her mother and aunt, becoming the guardian of her young sisters and niece, being diagnosed with an auto-immune disorder and had a horse riding accident that left her in intensive care.

But rather than focusing on herself, Ms Fraser said it was these blows that made her think of others less fortunate than herself.

“We walk to the tap and turn it on, and the water is right there,” she said.

“So many people around the world don’t even have that.”

It is this perspective which Ms Fraser said inspired her to sign up for the challenge of completing the 100km Oxfam Trailwalker with a team of friends dubbed The Pace Cadets to raise funds to tackle poverty.

The walk starts from Lysterfield Lake on March 29 and finishes at Fairfield 36 hours later.

Ms Fraser said she was looking forward to seeing her niece at the end.

“I want her to grow up knowing she can do whatever she puts her mind to,” she said.
