A Yarrambat man thought he’d got away with stealing and selling his boss’ tools — then his boss found one of them at Cash Converters. And it wasn’t the man’s first dodgy dealing.

A man stole and sold thousands of dollars worth of his boss’ tools before his boss discovered one of them at Cash Converters.

Steven Tzilves, 46, fronted Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, October 28, having also carried out multiple scams on eBay.

The Yarrambat man stole eight tools, worth about $3500, from a Briar Hill factory where he was working from late 2018 to early last year, trading them all in at Cash Converters Greensborough.

Tzilves’ boss went to the store in June 2019 suspecting to find a socket set that Tzilves hadn’t returned, only to discover his missing $1000 spray gun.

The father of three also pleaded guilty to defrauding people on eBay.

Tzilves pretended to sell a bow, quiver and arrows to an online customer for $545 but never came good on the items, and did the same with four axes he received $300 payment for.

His lawyer told the court he had been grappling to repay the Australian Taxation Office after his former business partner, with whom he refurbished old railway networks, had committed fraud and fled Australia.

Tzilves told the court his crimes were “out of desperation”.

Magistrate Michael McNamara fined Tzilves $1500 and ordered he pay restitution to his eBay victims.
