Residents living on the quiet Heidelberg West street where a man died from stab wounds say there were some “unusual” signs at the property before the tragic incident.

On the afternoon of October 16, a 25-year-old man was stabbed and died near a property on the corner of North Crescent and Timor Parade.

The victim was from Thomastown in Melbourne’s outer north and his reasons for being in Heidelberg West remain unknown.

A woman living across the road from the house where the death occurred said she’d noticed an unusual amount of noise coming from inside the week before.

“All the windows in the front of the house … they’d been smashed,” she said.

John, who has lived on Timor Parade for 70 years, said he’d stepped out of his home that afternoon to see what had happened but was ordered by police to remain inside.

“I didn’t know what was going on … I’d just heard a helicopter up above,” he said.

Another Timor Parade resident, who lives close by to the scene of the incident and who wished to remain anonymous, said police remained on the scene until after midnight and kept residents inside their homes.

“I went out to go to my car … there was a car that had run over the fence,” they said.

A resident of the street for seven years who didn’t give her name, said the people living in the home where the incident occurred had only moved in recently.

“We’re just being more cautious … making sure the doors are locked and the garage is closed,” she said.

The investigation into the death is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
