Police ‘shocked’ after three hoons nabbed in two hours in Melbourne’s north

Police have slammed three hoons caught recklessly driving over a two-hour period in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

Hoons shocks Coast residents

Highway patrol officers nabbed three accused hoons in less than two hours in Melbourne’s north overnight.

Ahead of the New Year’s Period, road policing Assistant Commissioner Glenn Weir warned drivers police would “ramp up” operations to target impaired, distracted and dangerous hoons.

“While we’re asking everyone to slow down, not drink and drive, and avoid distractions like mobile phones — rest assured police will also be doing their bit,” he said.

“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility.”

Despite the holiday message, Greensborough Highway Patrol officers said they were “shocked” to catch three speedsters in separate incidents in Melbourne's north in the early hours of January 5.

Officers first observed a blue sedan allegedly driving at more than twice the speed limit on Bell St in Preston about 1.25am.

The 36-year-old Tullamarine driver was arrested and had the vehicle impounded for 30 days.

Just 20 minutes later, the officers pulled over a silver sedan allegedly travelling at 124km/h on the Metropolitan Ring Rd in Thomastown.

Police say the 20-year-old woman from Bundoora was not displaying P-plates at the time and her vehicle was unregistered.

Later, at 2.10am, the highway patrol officers allegedly detected a third driver driving on the same road at 123km/h.

The 37-year-old Hoppers Crossing woman allegedly returned a positive drug test and is expected to front court on a number of charges.
