Charred pizza menus line the back wall of a Melbourne shop after a suspicious blaze early Monday.
Police remain outside Crust Pizza Essendon on Napier St after the shop caught fire about 4.15am.
No one was inside the pizza shop as the fire took hold.
Police have been told the business was broken into before the blaze started.
It is believed the offender forced their way into the building by smashing the glass front door before setting it alight.
Forensic officers were on scene taking photographs and gathering evidence from inside the building.
Investigators were seen interviewing occupants of nearby businesses about 9am.
The shop neighbours popular cafe Assembly Ground.
Police will work to determine the exact circumstances of the fire, however, it is being treated as suspicious.
