A child sought refuge in bushes after an unknown man “forcefully” told her to get in his car on her walk home from school in Melbourne’s east.

A Melbourne schoolgirl sought refuge in bushes after an unknown man demanded she get in his car as police search for the driver.
Monash detectives were told an 11-year-old girl was walking home from school on Landscape Dr, Doncaster East when an unknown man approached her about 2.40pm on March 28.
The man was driving a grey Audi Q3 SUV on Landscape Dr, when he performed a U-turn and stopped near the girl.
Investigators were told the unknown man ordered the girl to get into the car but she managed to run and hide in nearby bushes.
After lingering for a few minutes, police believe the man fled south on Taurus Rd.
The little girl, who was not physically injured, did not have a mobile phone on her at the time, so waited until it was safe to seek help from a nearby adult.
Detective Senior Constable Brooke Miller said the 11-year-old girl was left “terrified” after the incident.
“She felt like she was going to be taken,” Constable Miller said.
“A little girl should feel safe to walk home from school. It’s really horrible thing he’s done.”
Despite the being scared, the girl had acted in an “amazing” way, she said, adding “any glimpse could help” track down the man involved. .
“She’s remembered all the information and had the smarts to run and hide,” Constable Miller said.
“I’m hoping by giving the description of the man and the car, someone in the area has dashcam footage or information that could help us.”
The family is said to be “really upset and saddened” by the incident.

The man is perceived to be Middle Eastern with tan skin, black hair, with a black beard and moustache.
He was wearing sunglasses with brown lenses, and a grey t-shirt.
Detectives released a computer-generated image of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
