Police investigate alleged theft of hot water systems in stolen vehicle at Bunnings Warehouse Thomastown

Disturbing CCTV has emerged from when a customer was almost flattened by an allegedly stolen car inside a Melbourne Bunnings.

Car smashes through Bunnings roller door after alleged theft

An unsuspecting customer was almost run over by a car allegedly packed with stolen goods before it crashed through a roller door inside a hardware store.

Police are investigating a smash and grab from a Thomastown Bunnings Warehouse, in Melbourne’s north after a duo allegedly stole multiple hot water systems last month.

Newly released CCTV has revealed the moments two men entered the Dalton Rd store in an allegedly stolen Ford Falcon about 4.50pm on February 25.

The footage shows a blue car reverse into a section of the store before another man wheels multiple items in a trolley towards the vehicle.

Police say the pair allegedly attempted to drive away without paying for the three hot water systems before staff noticed and began lowering the roller doors to block their exit.

The driver then allegedly accelerated at a fast speed, narrowly missing customers.

The footage shows a person walking towards the door before noticing the vehicle and stepping back.

The car then accelerates and crashes through the roller door, causing extensive damage.

Police believe the car was stolen from a St Albans property earlier that day.

Investigators have released an image of a man they believe may be able to assist inquiries.
