Police arrest two men after Thomastown machete attack

An apparent dispute between neighbours in Thomastown has taken a horrific turn, with a man taken to hospital after being attacked with a machete. It came after reports of yelling coming from a house “all night”.

A man has been attacked with a machete in Thomastown after an apparent neighbourly dispute turned violent.

Police were called to a house in Alexander Ave – near Thomastown train station – to reports a man had been injured with a machete during a fight just after midnight today.

Sergeant Megan Stefanec said officers arrested two men following an altercation.

“A 46-year-old Thomastown man and 18-year-old Broadmeadows man were both arrested at the scene and are assisting police with their inquiries,” she said.

“The 36-year-old man was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.”

A neighbour told the Leader she heard yelling coming from the house all night.

Police still had the street cordoned off about 8am and one officer could be seen in the front garden of the property.

The incident also impacted commuters with a bus stop located in the crime scene, which resulted in at least one service being diverted into a side street.

One witness posted on Facebook that they heard “a guy attached (sic) his neighbour with a sword”.
