A Kalkallo man has pleaded guilty to drug trafficking after he was busted with a garbage bag full of weed during a routine intercept in Coburg.
Jamal Kaakour, 23, was also caught with knuckle dusters and 7g of cocaine down his underpants after being pulled over by police in April.
Two sets of scales and a cocktail of drugs were also found in his Volkswagen Golf, including three bags of cocaine and five batches of steroids.
The electrical apprentice fronted Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on October 31 charged drug trafficking, drug possession, unlicensed driving and possessing a prohibited weapon.
Police prosecutor First Constable Abdul Fakhouri told the court he was arrested on Murray Rd between Newlands and Outlook roads just after 7pm on April 5.
First Constable Fakhouri said officers detected a strong scent of cannabis wafting from the silver Golf when they asked Kaakour to produce his licence.
“During this conversation (officers) got a strong smell of cannabis emanating from the vehicle,” he said.
“The accused opened the glove box and showed (them) a medium sized zip lock bag containing (about) 7g of cannabis.”
First Constable Fakhouri said officers told the 23-year-old to get out of the car but they could still smell cannabis coming from the vehicle.
Police searched the car and found a large garbage bag with about 500g of cannabis on the ground behind the driver’s seat.

Steroids, cocaine, a large amount of empty deal bags, scales and a mobile phone were also found in his gym bag on the rear passenger seat.
Kaakour’s defence lawyer argued there was no more than 400g of cannabis in the garbage bag, which had a street value of $2500.
Magistrate Carolyn Burnside indicated Kaakour was looking at a jail term if he couldn’t demonstrate any progress of rehabilitation.
She stood the matter down until February 12 next year.
Kaakour’s bail was extended until the same day.
