A suburb in Melbourne’s north is set to be illuminated by magical lights, music and sounds with a free family friendly event this weekend.
Walking Thomastown is a White Night inspired attraction that will feature a breathtaking array of light installations, sculptures, glow in the dark art, live music, light up performances, soundscapes and more for one night only on May 5.
Residents are invited to gather as dusk falls and take a 1.6km mapped walk designed to lead a journey through culture and history, kicking off with a local-led parade.
The council run event is aimed to be a celebration of one of the Whittlesea municipality’s oldest suburbs, designed to highlight it’s diversity and heritage.
Live performances will include Nepalese cultural dancers, the Neon Ngargee performing traditional Kulin dances with a twist and much more.
There will also be plenty of family-friendly fun, with a dress up magic party earlier in the afternoon including a magic show.
City of Whittlesea chair administrator Lydia Wilson said that this immersive experience was an event that everyone could enjoy.
“Our goal is to take you on a journey through the area’s hidden gems, while showcasing the rich history and culture that make Thomastown such a special place,” she said.
“Whether you’re a history buff, a lover of street art, or simply looking for a new way to explore the area, Walking Thomastown has something for everyone, so come along and enjoy this unforgettable event.”
The main event will kick off at 5.45pm on May 5 at Main Street Recreation Reserve, before continuing along Edgars Creek to the pioneer precinct at Westgarthtown and concluding at Ziebell’s Farmhouse Museum and Heritage Garden.
