Leader Local Grants: Wahroonga Preschool needs cash to buy pole pads

A St Helena kindergarten is hoping to score a $1000 Leader Local Grant to make their outdoor play area safer. Time is running out to apply for a grant, with submissions due by June 2.

Children playing at Wahroonga Preschool‘s outdoor area must dodge large wooden poles, but the preschool is seeking help from Leader Local Grants to make the play space safer.

Treasurer Lisa McMahon said the four wooden poles at the kinder’s outdoor space posed a safety hazard.

She said pole protectors would reduce the risk of harm to children while they were playing.

The preschool also wanted money to help pay for two park benches, a basketball ring, a mud kitchen and a new water tank pump.

The total cost amounted to $1980.

“Most of the money will be spent on the pole protectors as this is a safety issue at the moment and has to be rectified,” Ms McMahon said.

“We currently have the area around the poles roped off, until the pole protectors are purchased.”

Leader Local Grants 2018 winners revealed

If your community group needs help or you’ve got a bright idea to make your neighbourhood a better place, this week is your last chance to apply for a 2019 Leader Local Grant.

A judging panel will shortlist finalists for each Leader masthead and readers have the chance to vote for their favourite project in their area.

The pitch with the most votes in each region will win a $1000 grant.

Applications close May 31.

Voting begins in June with grants awarded in July.
