Time is running out to apply for a Leader Local Grant.

Make sure you submit your community project online by midnight on Sunday, June 2.

You could receive $1000 to make your grassroots idea a reality.

Sweet Shepherds Dog Rescue is among the hard-working and heartwarming community groups in the running for a grant.

The charity rescues german shepherds from dangerous situations, and cares for the dogs until they can find them permanent homes.

President Sammy Nicholls said they had applied for a Leader Local Grant to help pay for veterinary bills, food, bedding, leashes and collars for the vulnerable pooches in their care.

“We rely on donations from our community and there are major costs involved with animal rescue,” Ms Nicholls said.

FREE basketball clinics

COMMUNITY film nights for seniors, showcasing Doris Day, Audrey Hepburn, John Wayne and Marx Brothers classics

A BIKE and scooter shelter for a primary school

A WETLANDS renewal project

MOBILITY chairs to help people with disabilities enjoy the beach

A PRIMARY school community’s idea to high local artists to paint bright, inspirational quotes on toilet doors and in corridors for students and teachers to see every day

If your community group needs help or you’ve got a bright idea to make your neighbourhood a better place, apply now for a 2019 Leader Local Grant.

A judging panel will shortlist finalists for each Leader masthead and readers have the chance to vote for their favourite project in their area.

The pitch with the most votes in each region will win a $1000 grant.

Applications close June 2.

Voting begins later in June with grants awarded in July.

Leader Local Grants is presented by Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation and sponsored by smoothfm 91.5 and The Langham Melbourne.
