La Trobe University students affected by the China travel ban will follow a “personalised study plan” as the start of the new semester draws nearer.

It comes after Prime Minister Scott Morrison revealed a travel ban preventing Chinese visitors and students from entering Australia could be extended due to the rapid spread of coronavirus.

Deputy vice-chancellor (International) professor Richard Speed said semester one would start as planned on Monday, March 2.

“For students affected by the current travel ban we are contacting them all individually to offer a personalised study plan, outlining the best way they can resume or commence their studies,” he said.

“We are also offering online orientation for affected students.”

La Trobe University offers mobility programs with China each year, but Mr Speed said no students were scheduled to go to the plague-stricken nation at the beginning of semester.

Mr Speed also confirmed La Trobe students away on short mobility programs had returned before the travel ban was enforced.
