A jealous ex allegedly whacked his former partner with a golf club before unleashing an attack on police who tried to arrest him, a court has heard.

And despite allegedly leaving the young mother fearing for her life and on the street with a bloody mouth, Jordan Devlin walked from custody as he was bailed on Tuesday.

It comes after the woman’s sister raised the alarm following a call from her terrified sibling as she was attacked as she slept in her government housing property about 3.15pm on June 26.

Dandenong Magistrates’ Court heard Mr Devlin, who had been separated for the woman for two years, allegedly shoved her and called her a “dog” before punching her in the face and hitting her in the arm with the club after he thought she had made a phone call to another man and not her sister.

After finding the woman sitting in the street with blood dripping from her mouth, police officers allegedly witnessed Mr Devlin toss his golf club toward the house before he elbowed an officer in the face during a wild attempt to avoid arrest.

“(The accused struck) the officer in the face with his right elbow and continued to struggle and resist,” the prosecution said.

Officers found a small bag of cannabis in Mr Devlin’s hoodie before he was driven to Dandenong police station where he tried to pin the woman’s injuries on her boyfriend during the interview.

The prosecution said there was no family violence or intervention orders in place at the time of the alleged attack, however the woman was left feeling “in fear” for her life.

Devlin’s lawyer said the “isolated” incident was sparked by the fallout from a traumatic motorbike accident which left him wheelchair bound after sustaining horrific injuries on January 4.

The court heard the Reservoir father-of-two’s children were left in the care of his mother in San Remo after his mental health suffered as a result of trauma.

“He was riding his motorbike and was struck after a vehicle didn’t give way,” Mr Devlin’s mother told Magistrate Julie O’Donnell.

“His femur snapped, ankle was smashed and he broke his knee and both of his wrists.”

She said her son used a wheelchair for three months before moving to crutches, however could suffer from crippling nerve damage in the right side of his body for up to two years.

“(Mr Devlin’s) mental health has deteriorated significantly since the accident and he disputes the (June 26) matter,” his lawyer said.

Ms O’Donnell said Mr Devlin, whose charges include recklessly cause injury, was issued a number of good behaviour bonds in the past but had no history of violent offending and had strong support from his family.

“He’s still a relatively young man and (suffering) from significant health problems during a pandemic,” she said.

Mr Devlin was bailed on the condition he lives with his father at Reservoir between 7pm and 6am.

He will reappear on July 23.
