Disgraced dentist Andrew Miliankos forged scripts to fuel Oxynorm addiction
A dentist who got himself hooked on a highly addictive painkiller stole his colleagues’ prescription pads to feed his habit and dole out the drug to friends and family.

A disgraced Melbourne dentist stole prescription pads from his colleagues to feed his drug habit and to supply his partner and friends with highly addictive painkillers.
In 2018, Andrew Miliankos started misappropriating prescription pads from his dental colleagues after he couldn’t get his hands on Oxynorm for himself, his partner and close friends.
Miliankos, who qualified as a dentist in 2015, developed a drug addiction after being prescribed Oxynorm for his chronic abdominal health.
However, when Miliankos was unable to obtain timely supplies of Oxynorm to manage his pain, he started forging prescription pads from two colleagues to use their prescribing credentials for himself and others.
Miliankos was busted when a colleague returned from holidays and reported the misconduct
Miliankos’ registration was then suspended.
Miliankos also failed to keep proper records of his consultations with his partner and friends where he prescribed them the drug.
Despite recognising he was dependent on Oxynorm, Miliankos continued to practise while impaired for three months.
In June 2019, Miliankos pleaded guilty to five criminal charges in the Sunshine Magistrates’ Court and was fined $6000 without conviction.
Miliankos received a reprimand, and his registration was cancelled; however, he was not required to undergo a further period of disqualification from reapplying for his registration.
“Dr Miliankos is still young, and it does not appear to us that there is any reason, with regard to his conduct in the period December 2016 to September 2018, for him to be prevented from resuming his career,” VCAT heard.
APHRA Board is considering Miliankos’ application for re-registration to practise dentistry.
