Schleibs, 25, grew up in Reservoir and Heidelberg West and said he had known the Brizzi brothers since he started his boxing journey in Preston.

Mr Schleibs was a three-time amateur champion and has come back to train with Sam and Ben Brizzi for his professional career.

Mr Schleibs said with 50 years of knowledge behind them, the training was a match made in heaven.

“I respect my trainers and they understand me and the ability I have. I feel like we can go all the way,” he said.

Both fighters are undefeated and Mr Schleibs is expecting a tough fight but said his son gives him all the motivation he needs.

“He is my driving point, he is all the motivation I need to make sure I don’t get beat,” he said.

“If I can achieve this it says a lot, it proves a lot of people wrong.”

In May the gym celebrated 50 years since it opened in the Brizzi’s garage in 1968.

They moved to their gym on Browning St, Kingsbury in 1988.

The gym also held an amateur boxing show in May in honour of their father Cos Brizzi, who died four years ago.

Bad Intentions, a Team Ellis promotion, will be staged at Melbourne Pavilion on Friday October 5.
