Andrew Casey accused of damaging Reservoir home, death threats

Metal batons have been used to damage a Reservoir man’s house and car, while he’s also been receiving death threats. Police say the man allegedly behind the attack is angry the victim is dating his ex — even though he lives with a new girlfriend.

A Heidelberg man allegedly used a metal baton to smash up the house and car of a man dating his ex-girlfriend, before sending him a series of death threats.

Andrew Francis Casey has also been accused of pouring petrol into the man’s battered car, allegedly committing the attack while on bail, Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court has heard.

Casey and another man allegedly turned up to the alleged victim’s Reservoir house at 11.30pm on Sunday, March 8, armed with metal batons and screaming threats and abuse.

Casey has been accused of sending the man death threats by text.

The court heard the pair allegedly smashed in the house’s front window and smashed the man’s car’s windshield and windows.

Casey allegedly then emptied half a can of accelerant into the car before the man came out of the house.

On the same day, and again on Sunday, March 15, Casey allegedly made numerous calls and sent threatening texts to the man, including, “I swear c***, I don’t want to kill any c*** as bad as I do you. Your days are numbered.”

The court heard Casey was angered by the victim dating his ex.

“The accused had turned aggressive towards the victim due to the victim dating the accused ex-girlfriend,” Leading Senior Constable Lee-ane Meade told the court on Wednesday, March 18.

She said the man had known Casey for years and had recognised him during the attack.

Casey was arrested and remanded on Tuesday, March 17 when he went to Preston police station to report a stolen car.

When he went before court yesterday to apply for bail, Casey’s lawyer, Ms Tye, told the court he denied the attack and his partner could attest he was home with her that night.

But Magistrate Meagan Keogh refused to let Casey go free while the “really serious allegations” were unresolved, saying he posed an unacceptable risk to the victim and the community.

“It’s a serious matter and he’s got a serious history,” she said.

Casey was heard saying, “I wasn’t even there”, as he was ushered out by custody officers.

He could be heard repeatedly screaming “f***” after he was taken from the courtroom.
