A WOODEND man has had a lucky escape after an object allegedly hurled from a freeway overpass smashed his windscreen on the driver’s side.
Rob Hill was on his way home just before 3am on Sunday when an object came crashing through the window on the Calder Freeway near Gisborne.
“It was just an explosion of glass,” he said.
“I was in disbelief and then...thankful whatever had hit hadn’t come all the way through because it was right in front of me.”

Victoria Police confirmed they were investigating reports of objects thrown off the Melbourne Rd overpass in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Two drivers reported damage to their windscreens, but no injuries were reported.
Mr Hill said he spotted figures on the bridge overhead.
“I spent two hours vacuuming glass out of my car. We’ve got a grandson and imagine if he was in the back,” he said.
Mr Hill asked anyone with any information or dashcam footage to contact police.
“If you see someone loitering around. If you see something like that, it’s just worth a phone call to the police,” he said.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
