An out-of-control fire in Sunbury has destroyed a shed and tyre pile, just metres from V-Line tracks.
Emergency services were called to the blaze on Evans St at 11.22pm on Saturday night, which took almost an hour to put out.
The fire destroyed a 10m x 5m shed and spread to a pile of tyres stacked behind it.
Flames burned just metres from the Bendigo and Sunbury line train.
The railway line remained open, with at least one passenger train forced to slow down as they passed the flames.
Sunbury resident Tony Ryan saw the blaze from his own shed and said it cast a glow across the street.
“I saw the smoke start, then I saw the glow,” he said.
“Other people at the Caltex had already called triple-0 – police had blocked off Horne St by then.”
Mr Ryan filmed the fire as trains were allowed to pass by it.
A CFA spokesman said the shed was fully engulfed by the fire, and could not be saved.
“An advice message was put out to tell people to shut their windows and doors … Victoria Police allowed trains to pass through at a reduced speed,” the spokesman said.
