A motorcyclist has been lucky to escape injury after coming off his bike while travelling at almost three times the speed limit in Diggers Rest.
The 32-year-old driver, who had a crucifix on his bike “for protection”, escaped injury after coming off his moving vehicle at speed, shortly after evading police.
The Avondale Heights rider was seen by police weaving through traffic, splitting lanes and overtaking in the emergency lane of the Calder Freeway on Thursday afternoon.
Highway Patrol clocked him travelling at 123km/h in an 80km/h zone on the freeway but he failed to stop for police and rode off.
He was then clocked at 137km/h in a 50km/h zone in a residential street in Diggers Rest.
A short time later it is believed he was travelling through a roundabout when he lost control and crashed on a medium strip.
Brimbank Highway Patrol Sergeant Andy Oakley said the rider was “miraculously” without injury and the man began to start playing and thanking God for his survival.
“There’s no doubt this man was very lucky; sadly, and all too often crashes such as this and with the driving behaviour we saw the rider would have been taken off to hospital if not worse,” Sgt Oakley said.
“Someone may have just been looking out for him yesterday to keep him safe.”
