Two passengers attacked and bashed a taxi driver after they refused to pay for a fare from Greenvale to Fawkner.
The cabbie picked up the two men from a Greenvale address just after 5pm on January 13 where they asked to be taken about 15km to Fawkner.
Senior Constable Melissa Seach said the men gave the driver their mobile phone as they had no cash.
“(They) were taken to Jukes Rd in Fawkner when an altercation has occurred,” she said.
“The offenders refused to pay and took their phone back before assaulting the male driver.
“The offenders, both described to be aged in their 20s then ran from the scene.”
Police didn’t say if the driver was injured during the attack.
Moreland crime investigation unit detectives have released images of two men who they believe may be able to assist with their investigation.
The photos show two men, one wearing a black cap and hoodie and the other a blue Nike top with a white stripe down the shoulder, sitting in the back seat of a cab.
