Up-and-coming fashionista Maddison Eddy has had her moment in the spotlight after her own design featured on the runway during Melbourne Fashion Week.

The 25-year-old, from Strathmore Heights, was lucky enough to have her original dress chosen to be a part of the Eco Luxe sustainable fashion showlast month.

The dress had to fit an upcycled fashion theme, and was made out of an old denim jacket and leftover bits of faux silk fabric.

Her design was inspired by fashion from the 2000s, and was styled with a cowboy hat and boots.

The Kangan Institute fashion student said she made the dress for herself in her own time and ended up in the show on a bit of a whim.

“I only applied a couple of weeks before the show because they needed a few extra dresses,” Ms Eddy said.

“It was the first time my design was on a runway, it was really exciting and gave me a confidence boost.”

The fashionista, who has only been doing fashion for two years, said she never thought she’d end up as a designer but now couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

“I started making my own clothes for festivals and going out and never looked back,” Ms Eddy said.

“My dream is to start an upcycled fashion label.”

The designer said fashion had really helped her to come out of her shell.

“I’m shy so I like to express myself through what I wear, there are no limitations to what you can make,” she said.

The sustainable fashion show featured 65 high end upcycled looks made by fashion students, with 50 per cent of ticket sales donated to the Red Cross.
