The Flemington Library will remain closed until mid-November to repair damage caused by a burst water pipe.
About 300 books, carpet and furniture was damaged when a small pipe under the first floor kitchen sink burst overnight on September 9, flooding through to the ground floor.
Works are being done to rebuild the kitchen, put in new carpets, and rebuild damaged floors and walls.
The damaged books will also be replaced.
The repairs are being managed and paid for by the libraries’ insurers.
Moonee Valley Mayor Narelle Sharpe said she was confident the library would reopen by mid November.
“We thank the community for their support and understanding during this time,” she said.
“Once reopened the library will be better than ever.”
In the meantime, Ascot Vale Library has extended its opening hours until 8pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and 5pm on Saturdays.
A pop-up library service will operate from Flemington Community Centre on weekdays between 11am and 3pm.

Books and other items need to be returned to other branches during the closure, while regular library programs have been relocated to Farnham St Neighbourhood Learning Centre and Crown St Stables in Flemington.
Members will not incur any fines for overdue items while the library remains closed.
