GREENVALE Kangaroos rewarded Kyle Adams’ loyalty with a stirring victory in his 100th Premier Cricket First XI appearance on Saturday.

The former Roos skipper played his part in a 25-run win over Camberwell Magpies, snaring 2-29 from 10 overs.

Adams has been a mainstay of Greenvale’s First XI since returning to the club after two seasons and 11 appearances for Northcote, featuring in his 89th game for North Melbourne/Greenvale last weekend.

“It was a goal I had set a long time ago, something that I wanted to do if I could,” he said.

“Pretty rapt to get a win in it as well.”

Adams, Sunam Gautam and Zaheer Hussain are the only players left from his return match for Greenvale Kangaroos in Round 1 of the 2014-15 season.

The club has experienced a significant player turnover in the past four years as it attempts to establish a foothold in Melbourne’s north-west.

There has been reason for optimism this summer, with the arrival of coach Matthew Love, director of cricket Peter Di Venuto and director of coaching Trent Johnston heralding a new dawn.

Adams said establishing a winning culture would be the next step in Greenvale’s emergence as a finals contender.

“We have been close in a lot of games,” he said.

“(We) just haven’t had the experience of winning enough with the group we have got. “Sometimes it can be the hardest thing, sealing games and finding a way to win.”

The Roos rallied from 6-115 to post 9-183 against Camberwell thanks to telling contributions from Hussain (34) and wicketkeeper Bernard Kelly (26).

Adams combined with fellow seamer Nathan Johnson (3-28) to rip through the Magpies’ top order, before spin-bowling all-rounder Gautam continued his golden summer with 3-21.

Gautam’s spell included the prized scalp of veteran Camberwell batsman Simon Hill for 22.

A 27-run ninth-wicket partnership between Lewis McManus (74) and Matt Whittaker (8) threatened to spoil the party, but Johnson struck twice to secure Greenvale’s second win of 2018-19 and lift the Roos from the bottom of the ladder.

“If we can get the batting and bowling right, like we did (against Camberwell), there’s no doubt we could win another three or four games, really push the top sides and hurt sides chasing finals,” Adams said.

“Really build something for next year as well.

“Hopefully the lower XIs can get a couple of wins as well and really start moving things forward for the club.”
