SUNAM Gautam made history as the first Nepalese cricketer to score a Premier Cricket hundred on Saturday in Greenvale Kangaroos’ gutsy draw against Prahran.

The 29-year-old reached triple figures for the first time in his career at Greenvale Reserve, compiling 106 from 113 balls to lead Greenvale to a total of 6-309.

The Nepalese Association of Victoria confirmed the significance of Gautam’s feat and he said he was proud of his historic achievement.

“First century and I was really happy with that,” he said.

“All my friends called me and they posted on social media, which makes me feel very proud and happy.”

Gautam had previously made six half-centuries for the Roos with a highest score of 82.

He remains adamant Greenvale had its sights set on reeling in Prahran’s monster 5-366 and a successful chase remained a faint possibility when he reached 80 at a-run-ball.

A dynamic stroke maker, Gautam has made 269 runs at 44.8 this season.

He has significantly increased his output from recent years, averaging 18.8 during his career with the Roos.

“I have been working a lot on spending some time at the crease,” he said.

Gautam said he had been overwhelmed by the level of support since his maiden century.

The all-rounder said he hoped Greenvale’s fighting effort on day two against Prahran would help inspire their first victory of the summer.

“That’s the main thing and we are really happy for each other’s confidence,” he said. “Hopefully we will continue with this in the rest of the season.”

Gautam also played a prominent role with the ball against the True Blues, snaring 3-115 from a marathon 33 overs.

He warned the Roos were ready to take a scalp as they strive to climb the Premier table.

“We just want to make a winning start, which we haven’t done yet,” he said.

“We’ve given a fight against good teams already so we are looking to upset the big teams.”

Wicketkeeper-batsman Bernard Kelly was unconquered on 58 and opener Luke Sandy made 54 as Greenvale denied Prahran a Round 5 victory.

The Roos face Northcote in a Saturday-Sunday fixture this weekend.
