EDFL 2019: Dual best and fairest Jack Yelland departs West Coburg for interstate move

The Burgers are set to wave goodbye to a sixth key senior player as they prepare for the 2019 EDFL Division 1 season.

Star midfielder Jack Yelland has departed West Coburg in a significant blow for the Essendon District Football League club.

The former Coburg-listed VFL player will move to Queensland and link up with Surfers Paradise.

While Yelland was limited to two senior games last year because of injury, he claimed consecutive Howard Thompson medals for West Coburg’s best and fairest player in 2016 and 2017.

The Burgers have been relegated to Division 1 after claiming two wins in Premier Division last season.

Four-time Strathmore premiership player Dale May has replaced Digby Morrell as coach.

Premiership players Omar Saad, Omar Abdallah and Marwan Abdul-Wahed have crossed to Division 1 rival Westmeadows, while Daniel Johncock and Daniel Archer have followed Morrell to Premier Division outfit Pascoe Vale.

West Coburg will face promoted Roxburgh Park in Round 1 on April 6.
