Legendary fast bowler Rob Walton declared Buckley Ridges batsman David White’s century against Hallam Kalora Park on Saturday as the best he had seen in the Dandenong District Cricket Association.
South African A batsman White made an incredible 147 of the Ridges’ total of 181 in a Turf 1 scorecard unlikely to be seen again.
Walton, if not the greatest paceman then certainly the quickest to play in the DDCA, called it a “devastating knock’’ and said White was “too good for this comp.”

ANOTHER TON FOR BRIGHTON STAR RICKY DAMIANO
Buckley had slumped to 9-66 before White, batting at No 3, and batting bunny Wes Nicholas put on a last-wicket partnership of 115. Nicholas made 5 not out.
The extraordinary innings from White came from only 99 balls. He deposited seven of those balls to the ropes and 15 over them. It was a stunner.
The knock took away the great performance of the Hawks.
Other than White, the Bucks (missing the suspended Daniel Watson) had no answers to the attack led by Jordan Hammond (4-60).
The third-placed Hawks reached stumps in an outstanding position of 1-79 and needing only another 102 for victory.
Leigh Booth was the player dismissed, for 38. A win would move the Hawks to within a point of Buckley with two rounds to be played.
White, in his first season at Buckley Ridges, has blistered 831 runs, with four centuries, and is averaging 166.2 this season
Bottom side St Mary’s has given itself a chance of causing a boilover against Springvale South.
The Saints batted all day to be dismissed for 235. It is not a huge total, but it will be a challenging run chase for the Bloods, who would likely move to top spot with a win.
Ruwantha Kellepotha was the star for the Saints, with the crack all-rounder hitting a majestic century against his former club.
Kellepotha faced 94 balls in his innings of 116. There were fifteen boundaries and six maximums.
Kellepotha is the hot favourite for the Wookey Medal — with 536 runs sitting alongside his 30 wickets, it is hard to see him not taking home the award.
His innings underpinned the Saints total with Luke Davis the next best with 40.
All ten wickets were taken by Bloods spinners — skipper Craig Slocombe nabbed 6-52 from 19 overs with his “nude nuts’’ and Malinga Bandara spun his way to 4-75 from a marathon 27 overs.
The match between Berwick (154) and Mordialloc (5-104) is evenly poised going into day two. The incentives for both sides could not be bigger.
A Bears win will see them lock up the last finals spot available whereas a win to the Bloodhounds will leave it even with Berwick with two games to play.
Nathan Pilon again got Berwick off to a flyer. Pilon faced only 67 balls in his stay of 68. His score took his aggregate in all formats past 1000 runs.
At 3-149 the Bears seemed to be on track for a big total before their batting frailties re-emerged.
The Wicks lost an incredible 7-5 either side of the tea interval as Hounds champion Ian Daniel had the ball talking. He was hooping and cutting the ball both ways on his way to 6-34.
Berwick fought back late in the day claiming four late Mordi wickets to get itself back into the contest. From 1-77 to 5-104 at stumps, the Hounds will rely on steady opener Brendan Morris (60no) to get them over the line. Emerging all-rounder Jack Phillips did the late damage with three wickets to give the Bears hope.
HSD, needing to win to ensure survival in the top flight next summer, crawled to 6-212 against bottom-placed North Dandenong.
It was hard going for the Soupmen against a disciplined North attack and an outfield that provided no favours to those batting.
Reigning Wookey Medallist Slick Davies was the star for HSD with a fine, unbeaten 100. He held the innings together and with the assistance of his brother Rob (37), the soupmen have a total to work with.
The North bowling was headed by Muharjithan Thedchanamoorthy with 4-40 and DDCA under 21 representative Austin Heldt with 2-22.
