Teammate Kyle Adams has urged Big Bash League clubs to consider Sunam Gautam as a signing for next season after the Greenvale Kangaroos’ all-rounder’s breakthrough summer.
Gautam has been of Premier Cricket’s biggest improvers, compiling 600 runs at 31.6 and snaring 27 wickets.

The 29-year-old, who became the first Nepalese cricketer to score a Premier First XI hundred in Round 5, enjoyed particular success in the Vic Super Slam.
Gautam made 197 runs from six Twenty20 innings with a tournament high of 65 and took nine wickets with an economy rate of only 6.3 runs per over.
Adams said the spin-bowling all-rounder had the qualities to emulate the success of his compatriot Sandeep Lamichhane, a revelation in the early rounds of the current Big Bash League season with the Melbourne Stars.
“He’s a superstar and he’s someone I would love to see get a chance at Twenty20 stuff a bit higher,” Adams said of Gautam.
“Even just a chance against them in some practice matches.”
Recognised as one of the sharpest fieldsmen in Premier Cricket, Gautam has set career-best numbers with the bat and ball this summer.
“He has got a lot more belief in his game and he is a lot more positive,” Adams said.
“He has always had the talent. I thought he was going to have a breakout year last year. The big difference is he’s making a lot better decisions when he is batting.
“He’s always had that batting talent, but picked the wrong shot or the wrong ball to go after in previous years.
“This year he’s a lot clearer in his thinking, batting a lot smarter and he’s batting for longer periods of time. He’s reaping the rewards.”
Adams said Gautam, who joined the Roos in 2014-15 after spending one year at Footscray, was a “nightmare for opposition captains to set fields to”.
“He can hit the ball 360 on the ground, he plays spin really well (and) he can play pace really well,” he said.
“He can just score everywhere. Sometimes that can be to his detriment … but he’s batting really smart.”
