Rock band The Strokes the centre of Melbourne Fringe comedy show
An classic US band’s 2001 debut album has inspired a Brunswick comedian to live out his 18-year obsession with the group on stage during Melbourne Fringe Festival in a show that is set to rock.

Audience members will wake up thinking about Last Nite after an obsessed fan of the US rock band The Strokes delivers a new comedy show.
Brunswick comedian Ian McCarthy first became hooked on the New York City group when he listened to their debut album Is This It at the age of 14.
“I was at the bus stop on the way to school and one of their songs — New York City Cops — came on shuffle and that song specifically I remember,” he said.
“It has a raw energy that I hadn’t really heard before.”
McCarthy has been performing stand up and pieced together his first hour-long solo comedy showIs This It? about the band for the Melbourne Fringe Festival.

“The album has a young style to it and listening back to it I wanted to juxtapose that with trying to move on and grow up a little bit,” he said.
Is This It? is on at Crowded in the Vaults in the CBD from September 17 to 22.
