A high school student has thanked police and the community after his stolen bike case had a happy ending.
Charlie, 12, of Brunswick, was inundated with offers to replace the mountain bike he had spent three years saving for after the Leader publicised it had been stolen earlier this month.

His mother, Paula Thomson, took Charlie to the Brunswick Police Station on November 8 and was surprised when the bike was wheeled out by police.
“Mum said I was going to sign some papers or something,” he said.
“I was thinking ‘is this the same bike?’ Instead of being angry I was happy again.”
Brunswick Senior Sergeant Michael Moloney said police tracked down the bicycle after an attempt to sell it to a pawn shop.
The bike was immediately returned to Charlie’s small workshop as it was “pretty scratched up” but it has since returned to the streets with a new, sturdier lock.
Ms Thomson said the response had been overwhelming and, along with replacement offers, people had connected with Charlie’s tale about saving up for his own bike.
“When you save up for something you really value it and Charlie really valued that bike,” she said.
“The response was amazing and the police were really good.”
Charlie said he was hoping to take his ride to the bush and do some more mountain biking soon.
“I want to thank the police and everyone who offered to help out … it feels good to know that there’s good people around,” he said.
