A Craigieburn woman has told of her horror after witnessing an “evil monster’s” act of animal cruelty on the Hume Hwy on Monday morning.
Fiona MacDonald was shocked to see two kittens thrown from a moving car into peak hour traffic near the intersection of the Hume Hwy and Craigieburn Rd about 8.20am.
“I couldn’t believe it — it was incredibly horrific,” she said.
“I was travelling south from Craigieburn to Campbellfield and I pulled over straight away and jammed on my brakes.
“One had been severely squashed into the road as it was run over several times and the other poor darling lived for a few minutes before its tiny body went into seizures.”

The traumatised mother said she took the kittens to a veterinary clinic, adding she was thankful her children had been dropped off at school moments earlier and did not witness the incident.
“I’m an animal lover but even most people, regardless of whether they’re an animal lover or not, would find that act completely abhorrent,” she said.
“To do it in such a public space, to think somehow that’s acceptable … I can’t understand it and I never will.”
Ms MacDonald has appealed to the Craigieburn community for information from other witnesses with the hope of “apprehending the evil monster” responsible.
“The car was several cars in front of me and I didn’t have time to take down its number plates,” she said.
“I’m hoping someone has dashcam footage.”

RSPCA Victoria has confirmed it is investigating community reports of the incident.
RSPCA Victoria inspectorate team leader Karen Collier said any information from witnesses and members of the public was crucial to their investigation.
“We especially urge drivers who may have been in the area at this time to check their dashcams for footage that could assist with our inquiries,” she said.
“We also ask any businesses in the area with road-facing CCTV cameras to check their footage and come forward with any useful information.
“Abandoning animals is a cruel and unnecessary act, and we encourage anyone unable to care for their animals to surrender them to an RSPCA Animal Care Centre.”
Hume CIU Detective Senior Sergeant Barry Gipp also urged witnesses of animal cruelty to immediately report it to the police.
“This kind of behaviour is appalling,” he said.
“Every detail is valuable, such as a number plate, date, time or description of a vehicle.”
If you have witnessed animal cruelty, including neglect or abandonment, you should report it via phone or online form to the RSPCA.
