THE Glenroy Library could be sold as part of new plans for the Wheatsheaf Community Hub in Glenroy, with Merri Health likely to have a presence on the site.
At last week’s council meeting, plans were revealed to rezone the current library site on Pascoe Vale Rd to facilitate its sale, which has a value of about $2.7 million.
The council would also look to lease out the Glenroy Maternal and Child Health Centre on Cornwell St, as it would become surplus to requirements.
The hub will feature a new and larger library. Speaking at the meeting, North-West Ward councillor Dale Martin said the hub was “an amazing opportunity to really lift Glenroy”.

“This is actually building the biggest library in the municipality in Glenroy. In the area where we actually need the biggest library,” he said.
Merri Health is in discussions to have a presence on site, with a plan to provide it a 165sq m consulting suite. Merri Health chief executive Nigel Fidgeon said given the service was still in discussions with the council, he couldn’t speculate on what services would be provided.
“We’re highly supportive of (the hub’s) development and its potential to enhance support services for Glenroy residents,” Mr Fidgeon said.
The Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre and Glenroy Memorial Kindergarten have also participated in discussions with the council regarding potentially moving to the hub.
The council is campaigning for government funding to help build the hub as part of the Give Glenroy a Go campaign, supported by Moreland Leader.
