MORELAND Council is calling on government to ‘Give Glenroy a Go’ by splitting the cost for a community hub.

The new council campaign, backed by the Leader, calls for $6 million in funding from both the state and federal governments to build the much-needed centre.

The council will kick in the remaining $12.5 million to complete the project.

MORELAND COUNCIL RELEASES PLANS FOR $23.17 MILLION WHEATSHEAF HUB

A masterplan from the council shows the $24.5 million Wheatsheaf Community Hub will contain a library, and childcare and health services, all located on Wheatsheaf Rd.

Early development Census data in 2015 showed children in Glenroy were at risk of falling behind, with 29.7 per cent of children vulnerable in aspects such as social or emotional health, higher than the 20.8 per cent across Moreland.

“Glenroy is growing rapidly and our services are at breaking point,” Moreland Mayor John Kavanagh said. “Child, health and education services are scattered across the suburb and buildings are well beyond their use-by date.”

Sureka Heeraluge, who runs a childcare service, said the hub would allow her to fit her groups in the one place after struggling to squeeze into the Glenroy Library.
