A man from Melbourne’s west was arrested after allegedly masturbating naked in front of two female surfers at a popular beach in the state’s southwest.

A middle-aged man from Melbourne’s west has been arrested after allegedly masturbating in front of female surfers at a popular beach in the state’s south.

Police say the 54-year-old Melton South man was arrested on Sunday evening, shortly after he was confronted by a pair of female surfers over the alleged lewd act.

“Police were called to the beach about 6pm … after reports a naked man was seen masturbating at the water’s edge,” a Victoria Police spokesman said.

“It’s alleged he followed the pair who sought assistance from passers-by.”

The spokesman said the good Samaritans spoke to the man, leading to an alleged “short verbal confrontation”, before he walked away and continued following the surfers.

Officers attended Point Addis Beach, about 10km southwest of Torquay, arresting the man later that evening.

He was charged with sexual activity directed at another person and was bailed to appear in the Geelong Magistrates’ Court on February 25.
