Greenvale woman fed up with ‘weekly’ dumping of rubbish in reservoir
Greenvale residents have hit out at illegal dumpers dropping bags of rubbish in parkland right behind their house every week. But the council insists the reserve isn’t a hotspot.

Illegal dumpers are having a free-for-all in Greenvale, dropping up to 30 bags of rubbish and hard goods behind people’s houses.
Greenvales Janine Cassar said people had been dumping rubbish behind her Shannon Rd house for the 20 years she had lived there.
“It’s an ongoing thing, people are always dumping rubbish here,” she said.
Her house backs onto Greenvale Reservoir.
“It’s really annoying, I look over my fence and see the bags and bags of rubbish,” Ms Cassar said.
“For the past few weeks there's been rubbish there every weekend.”
Hume’s sustainable infrastructure and services director Peter Waite confirmed council had collected illegally dumped rubbish near Greenvale Reservoir on Somerton Road.
But he said the location was not subject to regular dumping and the council had only received have one formal rubbish removal request in the past 12 months.
“There’s no excuse for illegal dumping in Hume, its not only unsightly but can pose a danger to the community, environment and wildlife,” Mr Waite said.

He said council is active in investigating illegal dumping and would fine offenders found doing so.
“Where safe to do so, we encourage residents to record details of offenders who dump rubbish and report them to council,” he said.
The council has a range of free services for people to dispose of their unwanted hard rubbish, including yearly tip passes, a hard rubbish collection service, and drop off days throughout the year.
