FOOTSCRAY’S furniture king has made the grandest sale of all, with the larger-than-life Franco Cozzo finally handing over the keys to his iconic store.
The salesman’s store at 54-58 Hopkins St in Footscray has been sold for $6 million.
From grand sales to grand displays, Mr Cozzo, 82, has always been larger than life.
He made a name for himself after appearing on TV ads where he would spruik the furniture at his “Brunsawicka” and “Footisgray” stores, in a mix of English, Italian and Greek.

The father of 10 opened the Footscray shop after he came to Australia in 1956.
He put the 1088sq m site up for sale for about $7 million last year, but later said he was staying put.
Mr Cozzo said earlier this year that he wouldn’t sell until he got the right price.
After that, he was planning on spending half the year in Italy and the other half in Australia.
In 2015 he was immortalised on the side wall of his store with a mural of him with his arms outstretched.
The property could be transformed into an apartment tower or commercial site, subject to Maribyrnong Council approval.
