MELBOURNE’s baroque king Franco Cozzo’s is back on our screens - and has no plans to retire just yet.

The latest 30-second TV ad for his lavish Italian furniture is being aired during breaks in the cricket on Channel 9.

As he’s done for decades, the 82-year-old salesman urges buyers to head down to the “grand sale” at his stores on Hopkins St in Footscray and Sydney Rd in Brunswick.

“Melbourne loves Franco Cozzo, I created myself a name and it has grown for generations. I want to be here for another generation,” he said.

Mr Cozzo said he’d made a contract with God to be here for another 50 years.

“When you are happy, you make the world happy,” Mr Cozzo said.

While the elaborate designs may not be to everyone’s taste, Mr Cozzo says it’s “good furniture”.

“We honour and keep the prestige style of the furniture,” he told the Herald Sun.

“People buy from Franco Cozzo for 40, 50 years.”

The father of 10 opened the “Footiscray” shop after he came to Australia in 1956 and then a second store in “Brunsawick” soon after.

“We are the best in the west and in Melbourne and have been for many years,” he said.

He put his 1088sq m Hopkins St shop up for sale for about $7 million last year, but later wrote on Facebook that he was staying put.

Mr Cozzo told the Herald Sun today, he would stay put until he got the right price.

After that, he’s planning on spending half the year in Italy and the other half in Australia.

The property remains on the market and could be transformed into an apartment tower or commercial site, subject to council approval.

He also created a new jingle for his “Footiscray” store last year, sung to the tune of Funiculì, Funiculà, in an 18-second video, and had another furniture ad in 2015.
