Fruit and cocktails are behind three creations from Brunswick brewers who will feature at the Great Australasian Beer Spectacular this weekend.

The ever-popular Weis mango ice-cream inspired both Inner North Brewing and CoConspirator’s flavours, named ‘The Wise Guy’ and ‘Mango Tango Shake’ respectively.

CoConspirator formed after two couples met at a home brewing course and after creating darker beers for the festival in previous years, brewer Maggie Smit said the brand paid homage to her younger days when it created a lighter flavour.

“I grew up in Queensland and I picked mangoes straight off the tree to eat,” she said.

“When people try this I want them to smile and think of summer afternoons like that.”

Inner North Brewing owner Zack Skerritt said the mix of mango puree and coconut flavour in his latest offering would make drinkers feel young.

“I want them to feel like a kid, it’s just a juicy treat,” he said.

The Foreigner Brewing will unveil a less tropical new variety on their specialty Czech Republic inspired pilsners with ‘Czechmate’.

Based on a cocktail featuring lime and cinnamon, the beer was created after a staff member sold the brewers on the cocktail.

“We tried to take that cocktail and take the spirits away from it and have a bit more of a beer side to it,” Foreigner co-owner Peter Denison said.

The festival will be held at the Royal Exhibition Building from Friday to Sunday.
