A Braybrook man who broke into a 12-year-old child’s bedroom during a terrifying aggravated burglary could be back on the streets in a matter of months.

Adrian Beau Grzunov, 29, was sentenced by Judge Carolene Gwynn in the County Court on Friday to three years and eight months in prison for his role in the 2016 burglary.

But having already spent 681 days on remand, Grzunov will be eligible for parole in March next year.

Grzunov, then 25, along with three co-offenders — David Crossley, Hung Hoang and an unknown man — went to a house in Kurung Drive, Kings Park just before 1am on September 2, 2016.

The quartet tried to force open a back door before they climbed through an unlocked window, stepping over a 12-year-old who was sleeping in a bed below the window.

Court documents showed at least three of the men were armed with metal poles.

Once inside Hoang went into another bedroom and jumped on top of a 47-year-old mother, covered her mouth and demanded money in Vietnamese.

The woman said she felt something “hard and cold” pressed against her throat by one of the intruders.

The petrified mum took Hoang to the kitchen pantry where she kept her handbag and he took $100 cash.

But the thug wasn’t satisfied and demanded more in Vietnamese before he forced her to sit in the lounge room while the crooks ransacked the house.

A 32-year-old man, who also lived at the house, was woken by the woman’s screams and was set on by the four men as soon as he opened his bedroom door.

Grzunov forced the man to hand over his $3000 gold necklace with his wedding ring attached by threatening to beat them man with a steel pole.

The group then stole two mobile phones, a number of designer handbags and Chanel jewellery and loaded it into the family’s black Toyota Kluger and drove off.

Grzunov also stole the family’s silver Toyota RAV 4.

Grzunov and Crossley were arrested later the same day when police spotted the RAV parked outside a house in Braybrook.

Grzunov pleaded guilty to eight charges, including aggravated burglary, armed robbery, theft, possessing a prohibited weapon and breaching bail on October 9 last year, the second day of his trial.

His defence counsel Jonathan Miller argued Grzunov was not involved in the planning of the burglary in his plea submissions and that he denied having or seeing a weapon.

Co-accused Crossley was sentenced to four years and seven months jail in 2017, while Hoang was sentenced to four years in 2018.

Grzunov had an extensive criminal history dating back to 2009, including a three-year and three-month prison sentence in 2012 for recklessly causing serious injury and making threats to kill.

He was also jailed in the Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court in 2011 on burglary and theft charges.
