LALOR might not seem the obvious setting for a hit sitcom but it could be about to become just that.
Lalor actor and writer Andrew Van Mulders, 29, said production companies had shown interest in bringing his show That’s What the Boys Are For to television screens across Australia.
Van Mulders said he played the show’s main character Andii.

The show was about “six 20-somethings awkwardly navigating adulthood as they battle hopeless jobs, money issues and love triangles”.
The show is based in part on his difficult childhood.
“Growing up in Lalor wasn’t straightforward. My dad left when I was seven,” he said. “I remember looking out the window every second Saturday waiting for my dad’s Torana to roar into my driveway. It never did.”
Van Mulders believed such experiences, while sad, made for “great writing”.
“I wanted to incorporate everything I’ve been through in the show so people can watch it and say ‘hey, that’s like me’ or ‘I knew someone like that’.” Van Mulders said he was also inspired by sitcom classic Friends.
About 50 cast and crew have worked on a pilot across the past two years.
Van Mulders said he hoped the show would be signed with a production company by the end of the year.
He also has his sights set on international platform Netflix.
