A Mildura woman unleashed a two-day rampage on Cavallo Dr, smashing windows with a metal pole, hurling wine bottles, and spitting in the face of a police officer.

Zelita Shepherd, 27, fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court to plead guilty to several charges including criminal damage and assaulting a police officer.

The court heard on January 9, Shepherd attended the Cavallo Dr address with a metal pole and started banging it on the flyscreen before smashing it against a window at the property.

Just three days later, Shepherd returned to the address in an attempt to purchase some drugs and was refused. Shepherd went to the recycling bins out the front of the property and took two empty wine bottles and used them to smash windows at the address.

When police arrived, she was sitting outside the victim’s house where she became aggressive.

As she was being placed in the divisional van, after being arrested, Shepherd spit in the face of a police officer.

The court heard of another occasion when Shepherd stole a push bike in December last year and tried to pawn it to Cash Converters.

When she was questioned by police about that offending, she said she found the bike and that the whole thing had been “a big set-up.”

Magistrate Patrick Southey described the spitting offence as “a shocker, a terrible form of assault”.

“Spitting in anyone’s face, let alone a police officer’s face, is an extremely serious form of assault,” Mr Southey said.

Shepherd also pleaded guilty to two indictable charges of armed robbery and attempted armed robbery.

Her plea hearing is set for the November County Court circuit sitting in Mildura.

She was sentenced to one month and one week in custody, with 35 days counted as time already served but will remain behind bars until her County Court hearing.
