Red Cliffs pervert Laurie Oliver accused of online grooming and meeting underage girls at Mildura pool

A Red Cliffs sex offender sent explicit images to underage girls and met one at a Mildura pool with CCTV footage showing him embracing with a victim for more than an hour.

A registered Red Cliffs sex offender told an underage girl he wanted to have sex with her before sending explicit images of his penis, a court was told.

Laurie Oliver fronted court to plead guilty to several charges related to his behaviour online, messaging multiple underage girls after being placed on the sex offenders register in late 2024.

The court heard Oliver began speaking to several different underage girls on both Snapchat and Messenger.

Oliver messaged several other underage girls on social media, some as young as 15, meeting them through the first victim during January and February of this year.

CCTV footage at Mildura Waves showed Oliver meeting with one of the girls and hugging and embracing her in the pool for more than an hour.

During one of the online chats Oliver told one of the victims he had been wrongfully convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl.

He sent another victim a picture of his penis and encouraged her to send him sexual content, he also expressed his desire to have sex with that victim.

Oliver was arrested on March 18 and when police searched his Red Cliffs bungalow found his laptop with several ongoing chats with underage girls where he was trying to organise to meet up with them.

The court heard of Oliver’s fragile state of mind and that he had been attending his community corrections appointments, but had not been engaging well.

It was revealed Oliver suffered from several mental health issues.

Magistrate Patrick Southey noted it appeared Oliver said the right things, but whether he followed through on those words was debatable.

“It seems he says the right things, but whether he does them or not … well,” Mr Southey said.

“He poses a risk to the sexual safety of people, that is undeniable.”

Given his age, Mr Southey said he wanted a report to determine whether Oliver should serve his sentence in adult jail or youth detention.

Once sentenced, Oliver will remain on the sex offenders registry for life.

He will return to court to be sentenced on June 20.
