Sydney, Melbourne, and ... Mildura? Here’s what brought Kings of Leon to town.
Kings of Leon are an international sensation, so how did they end up coming to the state’s most isolated city?
Mildura
Don't miss out on the headlines from Mildura. Followed categories will be added to My News.
The destination list for international superstars Kings of Leon is pretty normal, with capital cities named as most of the stops, ... until you see Mildura made the list.
Publicist Paul Dainty said there was range of things but it was Covid that gave them the time to consider Mildura as a destination.
“Covid opened up a lot of different conversations … we had a lot of down time to think about what can we do in future, what can we do differently,” he said.
“It came out of a bit of research and talking to the Victorian government, Mildura came up as one of the options so I sent my guys over to Mildura for a day to check out venues … then we sold the idea to the band of doing something different and they loved it.
“We ultimately landed on Mildura for a number of reasons — location, venue, history.”
Despite Mildura’s tiny size, compared to the the other cities on the tour, the band is still expecting a pretty sizeable turn out according to Mr Dianty.
“I think will probably have around 10,000 people maybe more, I think that would be a great outcome if we 10, 12, 13,000 people showing up,” he said.
“We did 11,000 per night in Auckland, if you consider we play a show in Sydney for 12, 13,000, so we come to Mildura a do 10 to 13,000 I think that’s a great outcome.”
Mr Dainty said events like this put Mildura on the map, and opened up opportunities for other shows.
“What’s important for this show, if it goes well, is that other people will take note,” he said.
“Kings of Leon coming to Mildura will make others go ‘oh Kings of Leon coming to Mildura maybe that something we should do’.”
Kings of Leon are set play at the Mildura sporting ground on the 29 October and tickets are still available here.
