No Vacancy: Mildura hotels fully booked ahead of Kings of Leon concert

Hotels in the state's northwest are full to the brim ahead of an October Kings of Leon performance.

The Kings of Leon performance later this month marks a return for tourism to the state’s northwest, with every hotel, motel, and hostel in Mildura completely booked out.

The closest available accommodation on the evening of October 29 is more than 110km away, in New South Wales.

Mildura Regional Development tourism manager Sarah Gilmore said events like the Kings of Leon concert helped put Mildura on the international stage.

“Big international events help draw more people to town and attract new and returning visitors,” she said.

“It’s amazing that they decided to come to a regional centre like Mildura given that there only other concerts are all in big cities around Australia.”

Local hotel owners pointed while it was not uncommon to be completely booked out this time of year, it was nice to see a return to form after the last few years.

A spokesperson from Inlander Resort spoke about how good it was see tourism return to the region.

“We were pretty slow for a few years but its good to see people coming back,” they said.

“If it were possible to be 110 per cent booked out, that’s what we’d be.”

A spokesperson from the Mildura Plaza Motor Inn said these were pretty normal numbers for this time of year.

“With school holidays still going on and weather getting warmer, it’s pretty regular that people want to travel around this time,” they said.

“Mildura has been pumping pretty much since coming out of Covid.”

The weekend has been fully booked at the Mercure Hotel since last year.

“We’ve had this weekend booked out since late last year…we had a tour come through and book the whole place,” a spokesman said.
