The Bureau of Meteorology has re-evaluated its flood predictions for the Mildura area, with the town now expected to experience major flooding in the first week of November.
While previously the Bureau of Meteorology had predicted Mildura wouldn’t flood until the middle of November and it would only be minor, meteorologist Miriam Bradbury said they had reassessed their outlook.
“There has been a bit of re-analysis … the major flood level is expected to be reached most like by the first week of November,” she said.
“Because Mildura is downstream along the Murray there are so many river catchments that feed into that water system … what all this means is that it does take constant reanalysis to get the best picture of what’s going to happen.”
Ms Bradbury said the Bureau would update advice as the situation evolved.
“This is something that we’re looking at on a daily basis, so that estimate might change a bit over the next few days,” she said.
She advised people the best place to keep up to date on the situation was the Bureau’s emergency and warnings page.
“The advice is really just to keep an eye on the warnings, view all the updates for the most up to date estimates for when the flood peaks might be reached,” she said.
