A Mildura man stole $50 from the passenger of a car as its driver tried to reverse away, resulting in him “skiing” along the road, a court has heard.
Shannon Nagle on Wednesday pleaded guilty to robbery at Mildura Magistrates’ Court.
Police said on December 18, the passenger, who was known to Nagle, had been to a Mildura bank to withdraw money.
The victim returned to the car but before she could close her door, Nagle reached in to grab the money.
Police said the victim had to let go of a $50 note so that Nagle would release his grip.
During the struggle, the driver of the car began to reverse, leading to a situation where Nagle was between the door and inside of the car “skiing along the side of the road”.
Nagle’s lawyer said the incident was related to an “agreement” about rent.
Nagle accepted he had retained the $50 after the incident and that some force was used when obtaining the money.
Nagle was “hanging on for dear life” when the car was moving and had sustained injuries, his lawyer said.
Magistrate Michael Coghlan sentenced Nagle to two months imprisonment.
