A grumpy grandpa allegedly headbutted a woman after a verbal dispute in full view of local shops on a busy Mildura street.
Sean Togo, 54, fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court seeking bail on assault charges after CCTV allegedly captured him headbutting a woman following a dispute between the two.
Around 9.30am on Thursday Mr Togo was spotted by police engaged in a heated argument with the alleged victim as they walked down San Mateo Ave.
When police stopped to speak to Mr Togo and the alleged victim officers claimed the accused was yelling at them and the alleged victim.
Concerned they weren’t getting the full story, police retrieved CCTV footage from a nearby shop which allegedly showed Mr Togo turning and headbutting the woman during the argument.
Mr Togo, who lives with his infant grandchild and 20-year-old daughter, was arrested by police and gave a no comment interview.
He was more talkative in the dock where he told Magistrate Patrick Southey the alleged CCTV evidence wasn’t as damning as police were making it out to be.
“The CCTV shows nothing, sir. Her head doesn’t get thrown back, she has no marks on her forehead, I have no marks on my head either sir,” Mr Togo told the court.
Magistrate Patrick Southey acknowledged Mr Togo’s statement, but added, “headbutts don’t have to be hard to hurt.”
Mr Togo’s lawyer Hugh Middleton asked for the bail application to be adjourned so his client could be assessed by CISP.
He was remanded in custody and his bail application will resume on December 4.
