An alleged Mildura crook has lashed out at a magistrate, calling him a “f--king maggot” after learning he would have to wait a while longer before being sentenced.
Peter Johnson, 39, fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday expecting to be sentenced over a string of charges stemming from an alleged wild attack at Honey Rooftop Bar in Mildura.
Police said Johnson allegedly smashed a Corona bottle over the head of a man he’d been sitting with, leaving the victim with a large gash.
Johnson then allegedly left the bar with the broken bottle still in his hand.
He allegedly moved next door to Subway, where Johnson threatened workers before turning on police and abusing them during his arrest.
When Johnson appeared via video link from custody, a prison officer told the court he would remain in handcuffs due to a recent “incident” behind bars.
The hearing heard the case had bounced between several lawyers before landing with Leanne Warren & Associates last week, prompting a request for more time.
Magistrate Michael Coghlan granted an adjournment until July 30.
“Do you understand you will appear again on 30 July, Mr Johnson?” Mr Coghlan asked.
“For what?” Johnson replied.
Johnson pleaded to be sentenced immediately but when his request was denied he exploded, moving closer to the camera and unleashing a torrent of abuse.
“F—k you, f—k you, f—k you, f—k you, you f—ing maggot,” Johnson said
The video link was cut, with Johnson — and his ill temper — set to next appear in court on July 30.
