A Mildura thug told his victim to stop screaming as he kicked, punched and bit her during a frenzied attack, a court has heard.
Michael Handy, 42, fronted the County Court sitting in Mildura to plead guilty to several serious assaults perpetrated against a woman in late 2024.
The court heard in October 2024, Handy assaulted a woman after he became aggressive towards her while drinking alcohol together.
The woman attempted to retreat but Handy followed her and kicked her in the back twice.
During this attack, Handy told the woman to stop screaming and drawing attention to herself, saying “you’re a smart c***, aren’t ya?”
Two weeks later he assaulted the woman again — this time with a piece of wood — after she challenged him on his ice use.
Less than two weeks after that incident, on November 10, Handy arrived at the victim’s house yelling, screaming and banging on windows.
When he was asked to leave, he started smashing windows and making threats to kill, before he kicked the front door down and punched the victim in the face multiple times.
He then picked up a hatchet and threw it at the victim, which she told officers “missed her by centimetres”.
When he was interviewed by police Handy admitted to entering her home and punching her in the head.
“F—in' oath, one way to shut the c—t up,” Handy told officers.
Handy questioned the court when Judge John Kelly was going through his relevant prior offending.
“What has all this got to do with what I am sitting here for now?” Handy asked.
“When I see you have been to court multiple times … for violence against women … it is very relevant,” Judge Kelly replied.
The court heard Handy, who is unemployed, would live with his mum when released from prison and would seek work as a labourer.
Handy who has served 241 days of pre-sentence detention will be sentenced on July 28.
